Yes, I know last week was the official start of Fall but it just didn’t feel like it to me. The weather has been beautiful but just hasn’t had that crispness of fall yet. Until today. I try to go out on the back deck most mornings to enjoy the first cup of coffee in the morning. Wake up talking to the universe. Watching the birds. Listening to the trees. Well it’s one tree that talks to me but that’ll be another story. The mornings have been getting chillier but just didn’t have that feel yet. Just a couple of trees have even started changing colors and dropping leaves. But today, well, today a slight breeze is shaking up and waking up autumn! Acorns are pounding anything and everything beneath them. Squirrels are gathering and hiding them as fast as they can. Slow swirls of leaves of various colors floating to the ground. Now, now it’s finally beginning to feel like it’s time to close up shop and prepare for the coming winter. Bring out the snuggly blanket and candles. Organize the pantry and stock up with soup and comfort foods. Change out the hummingbird feeders with the big bird feeders. Now’s the time to get it all ready so we can sit back and last through whatever the winter brings. Blustery days and long, cold, and maybe snowy, nights. And the rain, oh yes the rain. I LOVE the rainy days of fall. Not cold enough to be snow, not cold enough to require hot chocolate. But cool enough to make you want to stay warm and dry. Cool enough to make you want to grab a book and blanket and coffee and watch it and listen to it. The cool fall rains tell you it’s time, it won’t be long until the days are stingy with the sunshine. And I can’t wait! I love Fall y’all!
