Have you ever been lost? I don’t mean the lost you get when the Google map lady is drunk and tells you to make a turn and you end up at the border patrol gate. I mean the lost you get when you lose yourself and have no idea where you are or who you are. There’s no time limit to being that kind of lost and there’s not a guarantee you’ll ever be found. Most of the time you don’t even know you’re lost until a long time after you are. Then the nagging starts. That little voice that tells you you’re not in Kansas anymore and you need to find out why. So you brush it off. For a while. Then that nagging little voice comes back again. A-hem. Remember me? Yeah, we’re lost. YOU’RE LOST DAMN IT! Ok so now you have to think about it and think, well yeah, maybe I’m lost. So what now? You think, where you were you last? And when? Maybe you ask some friends for guidance to get your bearings. If they’re true friends they’ll tell you. Yeah, you got lost in 2000 and floundered around awhile and we figured you’d gone your own way. We didn’t know you stayed lost. Ok, so you were you in 2000 but then it changed. Ok, where are you and how did you get here? Well, you remember listening to other people, demanding people, and helping people and putting yourself aside. Over and over and over and over. Then you were gone. Just a robot that looked like you. So you think about that a while and maybe you figure it out and maybe you don’t. But what you do know is you don’t like yourself being lost. So you change one little thing. That one little thing saves you. Puts you back on the right road. You know you, the real you, is on this road. So you rush and run and try to catch up to yourself. And then one day, there you are. A little, or a lot, battered and worn. But it’s you, the real you. And it feels good, and you laugh and the sound of your laughter sounds strange. Man, you haven’t heard that sound in so long. And that’s how you know, really know. You’re found.
