The universe has a mischievous sense of humor sometimes. It rained a little during the night, so I made my usual cup of coffee and took a towel with me out on the back deck to dry off my rocking chair. It’s my routine most mornings to enjoy that first cup of coffee while outside watching and listening to the birds and squirrels. I listen to the trees and vibrations of the earth to take in the measure of things for the day, try to pick up the energies and any messages meant for me. It’s a relaxing start to the day. Most days. It’s the middle of October and the trees are barely changing colors much less dropping leaves. There’s a poplar at the edge of the yard that’s shedding a few here and there but mostly it’s the oak that’s closest to the back deck that’s literally throwing acorns off as fast as it can. This one tree. The only one so far. The ground and back deck are covered with acorns despite the deck being swept off nearly every day. I’ve had the misfortune of being hit by two acorns so far, one stung quite a bit. So I’m sipping my coffee, mindful of dodging the acorns if necessary. I hear them falling, ripping through the leaves on the way down. My mind is wandering from thought to thought as usual and I’m thinking, well, I should just go on inside and get my shower and start my day. And then I hear it. This one sounds like it’s gonna hit pretty close. So I look up to see which way I need to dodge. Too late. All of a sudden I’m wearing an entire cup of coffee. Bull’s eye shot right into my coffee cup. Just when you doubt the universe is listening to your every thought, you get your sign. I simply think “I need to go get my shower” and the universe says, while giggling I’m sure, yep it’s shower time. Funny universe, very funny!
